"I have always seen the world different from those around me. To me, the grass isn't green, the sky isn't blue, the animals aren't just animals. Instead, I see a variety of colors that shift moment-by-moment in the landscapes and in the animals that have their own individual personalities. I incorporate this into my art in many ways, from giving animals expressive eyes that seem to communicate with their viewers, to partially mixing greens to emulate subtle differences in the landscapes, to using multiple colors to capture each sky.
We live such fast-paced lives that we overlook the beautiful world surrounding us. We miss out on watching ocean foam play on the sand at the beach, the changing colors of the sunset, the different personalities of birds playing in the yard. It is my goal to connect viewers to the world around them so they can rediscover its beauty. And if even one viewer is inspired to slow down and do that, I have succeeded in my work.” - Shawna
